MACA 2023 Year End Party CONFABULATION

2023.12.12 Tuesday

On November 12th, 2023, MACA held our 2023 Year End Party CONFABULATION in Shangghai. Taking place during the Shanghai art season, the MACA Year End Party is renowned as an annual invitation-only social gathering for participants in the contemporary art industry. This year, we offered an even more exhilarating experience by opening it to the public for the first time. We also partnered with Shanghai’s most popular club, SYSTEM, as well as the highly anticipated emerging label, SHAWAM.

As MACA celebrated its third anniversary, the annual party, while maintaining its unswerving commitment to a show-stopping and peerless style, made bolder moves with crossovers. CONFABULATION not only gathered art professionals from China and abroad, but also assembled a star-studded lineup of active practitioners and performers in stand-up comedy, fashion, publishing, the LGBTQ+ community, dance, music, and more. At the end of the 2023 Shanghai art season, the party was an unprecedented blast of art. We feel deeply honored to have presented this all-encompassing party as the finale of the Shanghai art season, offering friends both within and outside the art industry a short yet refreshing break for their minds and bodies from their daily routines.

We would like to extend special thanks to Shanghai Tiangong Branding Agency and Allcoconut for their generous support.

MACA Art Center is a non-profit contemporary art institution housed in a standalone building of minimalistic industrial style and futuristic design in Beijing's 798 Art District, a major hub for arts and culture in the city. Through forward-looking and experimental content, MACA aims to enable communication traversing disciplinary boundaries while forging international dialogues grounded in the specificities of a Chinese perspective. Our programmatic scope, which spans exhibitions, research initiatives, pan-performance practices, and alternative communal engagement, signals a commitment to exploring ideas outside established epistemic frameworks. MACA seeks to position itself as a new institutional mode, proposing an alternative coordinate within the topology of Chinese contemporary art. Through art, we address our radically transforming times.
